Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road’s Powerhouse Single “Bill Monroe’s Ol’ Mandolin” Spends Third Month at Number One

Chart-Topping Group Charges Forward With Latest Single “They Call It Bluegrass”

Nashville, Tenn. – It’s been a remarkable year for award-winning band Lorraine Jordan & Carolina Road, and they’re ending the year on a high note. Their epic hit “Bill Monroe’s Ol’ Mandolin” remains in the top spot on Bluegrass Unlimited’s National Bluegrass Survey for a third consecutive month. The David Stewart written song is the title-track from Carolina Road’s latest project, which was released earlier this year. The band isn’t wasting any time charging forward with their next single, “They Call It Bluegrass,” which shifts to a Scruggs-inspired sound. Download and stream the full album HERE!

In celebration of “Bill Monroe’s Ol’ Mandolin” performing a hat trick on the charts, Lorraine and company visited the iconic Country Music Hall of Fame where she performed outside the exhibit displaying the actual mandolin used by the Bluegrass legend (see below). During the video, the “Lady of Tradition” also thanked fans and DJs for continuing to request the song. The single’s lyrics detail the famous night in 2018, when the instrument was taken out of its place in order to assist Ricky Skaggs during his HOF induction. From that point, the Country legend picked up the instrument, began playing it, and the rest is history. The hit has spent an impressive 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Bluegrass Jamboree Mountain Bluegrass charts, breaking the record for the most weeks in the top spot. The trip to No. 1 marks the first chart-topper on BU since “True Grass” which was also No. 1 for the month of December two years ago.

With the lead release focusing on Monroe’s mandolin, the new single is a Scruggs style, banjo driven tune written by disc jockey Larry Nixon. The lyrics for “They Call It Bluegrass” tell the story about the formation of the Bluegrass genre when Monroe and Scruggs met, and all the places where it has spread to from that point. The hard-driving song has already begun to gain attention, peaking at No. 2 so far on Roots Music Report’s Contemporary Bluegrass Song Chart. Carolina Road also celebrated the release by unveiling the official video for the Scruggs-inspired cut, which has been seen over 100K times, and continues to grow.
