Nashville, Tenn. – The Goodwin Brothers, known for their impeccable three-part harmonies and unique blend of Bluegrass, Americana, and Southern Gospel, are excited to announce the release of their new single, “The Baptism of Jesse Taylor.” Featuring the extraordinary talent of six-time IBMA Female Vocalist of the Year winner Dale Ann Bradley, this classic song is sure to captivate listeners with its heartfelt rendition. Fans can pre-save the song HERE.
“The Baptism of Jesse Taylor is a song that Will and I have sang since we were kids. When talking with Dale Ann about a song we could collaborate on, we knew we wanted a Gospel song but we weren’t sure of the right one. As we began exploring options, my mind eventually went back to my childhood in the early 90s at the Old Joe Clark Bluegrass Festival at Renfro Valley, KY,” says Jonathan Goodwin. “I remembered seeing Dale Ann sing this song with David Marshall. I mentioned the song to her and her response was, ‘I love the song and loved singing it with David Marshall years ago!’ We quickly realized that this was the song we were suppose to do together. It felt like a tune that we all could get excited about revisiting.”
He adds, “The song has been recorded by over 100 artists over the last 50+ years. Everyone from Jeannie C. Riley, The Oak Ridge Boys, George Jones, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt, and countless others. I think the reason this song has resonated with so many is because as the writer (Dallas Frazier) states, ‘there’s a little bit of Jesse Taylor in all of us’ (end quote). Not long before he passed away, I had the chance to meet Dallas at a taping in Nashville and asked him about this song specifically. Through the years I heard stories of people claiming they had met ‘Jesse Taylor’ and asked him who was this guy! He simply replied, ‘Jesse Taylor…is me.'”
Written by Dallas Frazier and Sanger Shafer, “The Baptism of Jesse Taylor” has become a staple in the Bluegrass and Gospel music community, with recordings by renowned artists such as Travis Tritt, The Oak Ridge Boys and The Gaither Vocal Band. The lyrics focus on a baptism and the transformative power it brings, highlighting the positive changes in Jesse Taylor’s life. The Goodwin Brothers’ version, now available to radio, will be released on digital and streaming platforms on August 16.
This release marks the group’s first single since their 2023 Pinecastle Records album,If You Hadn’t Noticed.
