Group Brings Together Members Josh Williams, Don Rigsby, Ron Block, Steve Thomas and Mike Anglin for Next Chapter
Nashville, Tenn. – Pinecastle Records is proud to announce the official signing of Southern Legacy, a Bluegrass supergroup featuring some of the genre’s most celebrated musicians: Josh Williams, Don Rigsby, Ron Block, Steve Thomas and Mike Anglin. Together, these five world-class artists unite decades of experience and a shared passion for authentic Bluegrass music.
“Southern Legacy is proud to be partnering with Pinecastle Records. If you added up the cumulative years of experience of the guys in our band, you would come up with a number close to 200. That’s a lot of experience,” says Southern Legacy. “We’ve discovered quite a chemistry in each other. Everyone in this band has done their homework. We have all studied the greats. It is our mission to produce music that continues the vision of our mentors, to reach into the past and reflect the musicians and culture that made us want to make music.”
They add, “This Legacy is not a static one. It is reborn with every new song. That said, we feel strongly about the business relationships we enter into. So after much deliberation, looking through the many recording companies that have made offers to help us in our pursuits, we are excited to sign with Pinecastle Records. We feel strongly that Ethan Burkhardt and his fine staff at Pinecastle share in this vision as well. All of Southern Legacy would like to thank Ethan for his attention to every detail and his affirmations and encouragement as to our pursuits. We are looking forward to the ride.”
Their highly anticipated debut single, “The Hills of Carter County,” will be released on July 30th across all major digital and streaming platforms (pre-save it HERE). Written by acclaimed songwriters Jeff Walter and Marc Rossi, the edgy ballad combines heartfelt storytelling with striking instrumentation and powerhouse vocals, which are hallmarks of each member’s signature style. Already a fan favorite during the band’s live shows, the track is described as an “instantly catchy recording” that captures the essence of what Southern Legacy represents: tradition with fire and soul.
The group has wasted no time hitting the stage, with a busy tour schedule already underway. Highlights include a must-see performance at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum on October 3rd in Owensboro, KY, and the announcement of an Ireland tour in 2026. - Josh Williams – Three-time IBMA “Guitar Player of the Year,” 17-time SPBGMA winner, and former member of Rhonda Vincent & The Rage with multiple acclaimed solo albums to his name.
- Don Rigsby – Renowned vocalist and instrumentalist who has worked with Ralph Stanley, J.D. Crowe, The Lonesome River Band, and more, earning his place as one of Bluegrass music’s elite voices.
- Ron Block – Multiple Grammy Award-winning musician best known for his work with Alison Krauss & Union Station, and a respected songwriter with cuts by Randy Travis, Rhonda Vincent and more.
- Steve Thomas – A multi-instrumental Nashville session ace who has worked with The Osborne Brothers, Kenny Chesney, The Whites and co-fronted the chart-topping group Steve Thomas & The Time Machine.
- Mike Anglin – A veteran bassist and harmony vocalist with nearly 50 albums to his credit, having performed with Bluegrass greats including Bill Monroe, Tony Rice and The Del McCoury Band.
