Nashville, Tenn. – Pinecastle Records is excited to announce the addition of critically-acclaimed bluegrass roots band Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road to its evolving roster. The internationally-touring group has already begun planting their roots in the genre, as a previous recipient of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) award for “Momentum Band of the Year.” They are currently in the studio working on new material, set for release in 2024.
“I am thrilled to be working with the folks at Pinecastle,” says Liam Purcell. “We spent a long time writing and arranging this new music and are almost ready to put it out for the world to hear. It is an incredible opportunity to work with a label like Pinecastle and I’m thankful for their support and work towards making this project happen.”
The band is led by bluegrass prodigy and current Berklee College of Music student Liam Purcell. The award-winning musician has turned countless heads over the years. In 2022, the North Carolina native swept the Rockygrass Instrumental Championships by becoming the first person to win in the guitar, mandolin and banjo categories all in the same year. He’s joined by world-class musicians who help complete Cane Mill Road. Appalachian State University graduate Rob McCormac brings his skills on guitar. Jacob Smith delivers both vocals and bass, offering a diverse style and approach. Next, Appalachian State University’s Colton Kerchner performs his unique style on banjo. Rounding out the group is Berklee College of Music graduate Ella Jordan on fiddle.
“We’re very excited to have Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road on our roster, and looking forward to introducing fans to the future of the genre” says Pinecastle Records CEO Ethan Burkhardt. “They have already gained a great amount of respect from the industry and the future is looking very bright.”
They have been dubbed, “the future of Bluegrass” by No Depression. Following their 2020 self-released album Roots, Bluegrass Today said “their skill is clearly unquestionable,” while Bluegrass Unlimited said they are “Making their mark on bluegrass and fueling the future.” The collection debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Bluegrass Albums Chart. Their live show has also been at the forefront fueling their rise. To date, Liam Purcell & Cane Mill Road performed at Merlefest, Rockygrass, IBMA’s World of Bluegrass and countless others while also appearing on PBS and Wood Songs.
Stay tuned as more details are revealed about upcoming music. The group’s most recent 2023 releases “Crooked As You Go” and “Uncle Lloyd,” will both be featured on the next full-length Pinecastle Records album.
