Upbeat Bluegrass Standout Finds Hope and Purpose in the Face of Hardship
Nashville, Tenn. – Acclaimed Bluegrass guitarist and vocalist Jim Hurst continues the momentum behind his latest album Travels & Time with the release of “Mile Marker 203.” Written by Hurst and Jack Shannon, the upbeat Bluegrass tune delivers the unmistakable guitar work and heartfelt vocals Hurst has become known for while telling a story about finding hope in the midst of difficult circumstances. “Mile Marker 203” is available with the full Travels & Time album via Pinecastle Records on all digital and streaming platforms HERE.
Driven by Hurst’s signature picking style and an infectious Bluegrass arrangement, “Mile Marker 203” follows a narrator who finds himself repeatedly returning to a particular location marked by Mile Marker 203. Though born from a difficult situation, the place becomes a source of comfort and hope as the narrator recognizes that a higher power continues to lead him there. Hurst and Shannon bring that message to life with a song that balances an upbeat musical backdrop with a deeper story about faith and perseverance. The track follows the previous charting singles: “One More Lonesome Train,” “Southbound” and “I’m Leavin’,” with the latter spending eight weeks on the Bluegrass Today Weekly Airplay Chart and peaking at No. 2. Instrumental credits on “Mile Marker 203” include Jim Hurst (guitars, lead and baritone vocals), Beth Lawrence (bass and tenor vocals), Matt Wingate (mandolin), Chris Wade (banjo) and Christian Ward (fiddle).
Released earlier this year via Pinecastle Records, Travels & Time features 13 recordings that showcase Hurst’s ability to move effortlessly between original material, traditional favorites and fresh interpretations. The album also includes the traditional “Reuben’s Train,” the reflective “The Boys Who Left Prince Station” and the deeply personal “Last Song I Sang For Mother,” alongside other Hurst originals like “Procrastination Boogie.” The collection has earned praise for its balance of technical brilliance and emotional depth, with Indie Pulse Music Magazine noting that “Jim Hurst delivers a record that is steady, thoughtful, and deeply rooted in the traditions he’s spent a lifetime shaping,” while Hollywood Digest praised how “the two-time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year doesn’t abandon virtuosity here; he reframes it.” Ballyhoo Magazine called Travels & Time a standout for its patience, while Melody Maker Magazine declared that the album “effortlessly justifies Hurst’s enduring reputation.”
Hurst has built a celebrated career as a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, arranger, producer, session musician and educator. He’s also hitting the road with several shows coming up, including a return to the Country Music Hall of Fame on November 14 to perform at Bluegrass and Beyond.
