Paisley Announces New Single “Have I Stayed Away Too Long” Following Recent No. 1 Hit and Solo Debut on the Grand Ole Opry
Nashville, Tenn. – Today marks a powerful new chapter in the storied career of one of Bluegrass music’s most respected voices. Danny Paisley’s long-awaited album, Bluegrass State of Mind, is officially out now via Pinecastle Records (download, stream, or purchase it HERE). The 10-track collection blends Paisley’s signature hard-driving traditional style with heartfelt storytelling and Gospel-rooted inspiration. It also stands as his first full-length release since 2021, following a personal battle with throat cancer that once left his future as a vocalist uncertain. Now fully recovered, Paisley returns with more fire and authenticity than ever before.
The album’s next mainstream Bluegrass single is the moving track “Have I Stayed Away Too Long” – a classic penned by Frank Loesser and first recorded by Tex Ritter and His Texans in 1944. Over the decades, it has been covered by legendary voices like Willie Nelson, but never quite like this. With his trademark blend of raw emotion and one-of-a-kind phrasing, Paisley breathes new life into the time-honored tune, creating a version that is respectful of its roots, and undeniably his own. With 2025 marking Danny’s 50th year in Bluegrass after first taking the stage as a young member of his father Bob Paisley’s band – Danny Paisley proves that his passion is not only intact, but more powerful than ever.
Bluegrass State of Mind delivers a rich variety of standout moments, including the chart-topping lead single “Till Lonesome Comes Around”, which hit No. 1 on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Airplay Survey this spring. The album’s title track, “Bluegrass State of Mind,” is an energetic anthem that perfectly captures the spirit of the genre, while the Mark Brinkman and Daryl Mosley penned “Two Old Church Pews” offers a stirring Gospel-infused message and premiered earlier this week with Vents Magazine. The album features a strong cast of songwriters such as David Stewart, Rick Lang, Jon Goldfine, Troy Spencer, Brice Long and more (see full track listing below), helping deliver a collection full of depth and emotion.
Through it all, Danny Paisley is reaching a new peak in his illustrious career. He is the reigning 2024 IBMA “Male Vocalist of the Year,” which is an honor he’s now earned four times, while continuing to perform to packed crowds across the country with his band, The Southern Grass. Just last month, he made his long-awaited solo debut on the Grand Ole Opry, a moment that cemented his legacy while showcasing his enduring vocal power. Bluegrass State of Mind is his second full-length project with Pinecastle Records, following the critically acclaimed Bluegrass Troubadour, which was nominated for 2022 IBMA “Album of the Year.”
