Biography

Hailing from the south, bluegrass artist Troy Engle grew up with a love for bluegrass and country, gaining inspiration from legendary artists such as Randy Travis, Alison Krauss, and Union Station. With a clear goal in mind of becoming a musician at the ripe age of ten, Troy Engle’s passion for music has made him into the artist and musician many know and love today.

After taking a job in the Mark Newton Band in 1999, Troy Engle paved his way into Nashville, TN, creating a name for himself that others would not forget. Having been in the Nashville scene for 12 years, Engle’s has played just about everywhere, including the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN and Bluegrass and Country Festivals all across North America. He’s played with incredible artists such as Patty Loveless, Larry Sparks, The Isaacs, and Buddy Jewel. Not to mention Troy has written award winning bluegrass hits with Dixie and Tom T. Hall and has composed music for TV shows like The Voice, American Pickers, Duck Dynasty, and Pawn Stars.

After the release of his debut album, Southern Skies, Troy Engle continues to write heartfelt and raw music for all to hear. Sticking to his roots in the bluegrass genre, he continues to set himself apart in his music through rich tales of his family history, his walk in faith, and his everyday life. Whether it be a song off of his tribute album to Dixie and Tom T. Hall, Fox Hollow Memories, released in 2020, or one of his newer singles such as “Outrun the Pain” or “Never Too Lost”, there is something every listener can take away. In anticipation of his forthcoming album, Back Home, on Pinecastle Records, in 2023 he released new original songs from it that provide an escape to everyday life and leave listeners wanting more.

In 2018 Troy stepped out from the shadows of the spotlight, to shine the light on his own original music. After releasing his first all original, solo album Southern Skies, he began to bring these tunes to life on stage with his ace band named after the album. His wife Mandy plays upright bass and sings while his daughter Lizzie plays fiddle and is on vocals. Adam Kruzic sings harmony and plays mandolin, and rounding the band out is Mike Brubaker on the banjo. The band specializes in original, traditional bluegrass all while incorporating a modern flair and a knack for storytelling. If you like a blend of Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs, Larry Sparks, and a little Randy Travis for good measure, Troy Engle and Southern Skies might just be the band you’ve been looking for.
