Columbus, NC - September 2, 2010 - Pinecastle Records
is excited to announce that it has signed a
deal with resophonic guitar player, Phil Leadbetter.
Leadbetter already has a long history on
the label, not only in the bands Wildfire and Grasstowne, but also as a
Leadbetter is currently touring with The Whites, the supergroup Rigsby, Leadbetter and Bennet, the "Jukebox Junkie" himself, Ken Mellons as well as performing with his family band, The Leadbetters. Phil and his Brother Kent played in several bands together in the early 1980s including Hard Knox and New Dawn. New Dawn was one of the official bands of the 1982 World’s Fair. 25 years later finds Phil and Kent with their two sons Matt and Chance playing in a band together. “The Leadbetters” became the natural choice in a name for this family band.
Some of the albums in the Pinecastle catalog that credit Phil Leadbetter include three Wildfire albums, two Grasstowne albums and his award winning solo album, Slide Effects. The IBMA awarded him with “Dobro Player of the Year” and Slide Effects was awarded “Instrumental Album of the Year” in 2005. The single “California Cottonfields” from Slide Effects gained critical success reaching #1 on Bluegrass Unlimited’s National Bluegrass Survey for two consecutive months. He is also a two time SPBGMA “Dobro Player of the Year” award winner. He has two signature Dobros available from Gibson. Previously, Leadbetter was a member of JD Crowe & the New South, performed with Grandpa Jones and CBS recording artist Vern Gosdin. more...
